I noticed a problem today with my Android Emulator. When testing an application in the Android Virtual Device, I pulled up the keyboard and saw that the keys were in English, but the auto-complete text and keyboard switch button (bottom left) had Chinese characters. I created a new device in the AVD manager and experienced the same issues in the stock Android programs (like Contacts).
I’m not sure how this started, but if you experience the same problem, it’s easily fixable. To change back to the standard keyboard, first click and hold on the button with the Chinese characters at the bottom left of the device. You will see a menu like the one below:
Choose “Input Method” from the list and this will allow you to select a new keyboard. Select “Android Keyboard” from this list and you will then have the default keyboard.
Alternatively, you can disable all unwanted keyboards in the system settings under “Language and keyboard” as shown below.
That’s all you have to do. I tested my changes by rebooting the device and confirmed that it did keep the keyboard settings. I hope this helps anyone that comes across the same problem.
